For parents, carers & teachers

Little stories can start big conversations.

Bruno's adventures are stories to enjoy together, with gentle opportunities to talk about courage, friendship, kindness and following our dreams.

There is no right answer and no lesson that has to be taught. Sometimes the best conversations simply begin with a question.

Behind the adventures

Bravery doesn't mean being fearless.

One of the most important ideas in Bruno's world is that feeling worried, nervous or uncertain doesn't stop someone from being brave.

Bruno sometimes feels unsure. He sometimes needs encouragement. He doesn't always know what will happen next.

What matters is that he learns to take the next step.

“One brave step at a time.”
Ideas within the story

Four themes to explore together.

These ideas run naturally through Bruno's adventures without turning the story into a lesson.

Bruno showing courage

Courage

Feeling frightened doesn't mean you can't be brave. Courage can simply mean trying the next small step.

Bruno and his friends together

Friendship

Good friends can encourage, listen and stay beside us without having to solve every problem for us.

Bruno showing kindness

Kindness

Small acts of kindness matter. Helping, listening and noticing someone else can make a big difference.

Bruno thinking about his dreams

Dreams

Big dreams can feel far away, but every adventure has to begin somewhere.

After the story

Things you could talk about.

Pick one or two that feel natural. You certainly don't need to ask them all.

01

When did Bruno feel nervous?

What do you think was going through his mind?

02

When was Bruno brave?

Was he still brave even though he felt frightened?

03

Who helped Bruno?

What did they do that made things a little easier?

04

Who did Bruno help?

How can helping someone else sometimes help us too?

05

What would you have done?

Would you have made the same choice as Bruno?

Loz the Robin
Friendship without taking over

The importance of Loz.

Loz is Bruno's loyal travelling companion.

He encourages Bruno, reassures him and stays nearby, but he doesn't solve Bruno's problems for him.

That distinction is important.

Bruno still has to make his own choices and take his own brave steps. Loz simply reminds him that he doesn't have to face every adventure alone.

A thought to take with you

Every child has their own brave steps.

Some are easy to see. Others may seem very small to everyone except the child taking them.

Notice them. Encourage them. Celebrate them.
